Welcome to Rough Cut Kitchen

Welcome, and thanks for dropping by.

Rough Cut Kitchen isn’t a recipe site in the traditional sense.

It’s where I share the meals I cook at home, the successes, the failures, and the little discoveries that happen along the way. Sometimes the recipe works exactly as planned. Sometimes, as I recently discovered with a batch of persimmons, the ingredients have other ideas.

You’ll find recipes here, but you’ll also find stories.

Stories from our travels through France, observations from the garden, visits to local farmers’ markets, conversations with butchers and producers, and the simple pleasure of cooking with what’s available rather than chasing perfection.

I don’t believe every meal has to start with expensive ingredients or complicated techniques. Good cooking begins by looking in the fridge, checking what’s in season, using what you’ve already got, and enjoying the process.
